Globe Reveals Guidelines for Safe SIM Registration (4 Tips)

Globe Telecom urges Globe and TM subscribers to follow safe SIM registration procedures for their protection as scammers continue to find ways to circumvent the SIM Registration Act.

New fraud methods that target vulnerable SIM users have continued to emerge since SIM registration became mandatory in the Philippines. Globe is encouraging SIM users to prioritize secure SIM registration and maintain a high level of alertness.

Eric Tanbauco, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for Globe's Consumer Mobile Business, said:
As much as we prioritize our customers' safety, we also call on them to be part of the solution against persistent fraud. All things considered, the first line of defense against SIM-related fraud are the SIM users themselves. We hope they follow good personal safety practices to fend off fraud attempts.

If you want to register your newly bought Globe/TM SIM, follow these guidelines for a SIM registration process.

#1. Register only via Globe's official SIM registration portal.

As warned by the telco, be cautious of fake websites pretending to be Globe's official site. Globe has just one official website, which you can visit by clicking this link: https://ift.tt/QPpn4Kg.

On the other hand, customers can register their SIM cards using the GlobeOne app, which Globe recommends.

#2. You should register your own SIM.

People who want to keep their information safe must register their own SIMs. Avoid offers to assist in registering SIMs or have someone else register for you. SIM users' personal info is obtained this way.

Note that SIM registration is completely free, as in no extra fees. Customers should avoid online and retail store SIM registration assistance offerings that charge double the SIM price. The third-party SIM registration service may compromise users' personal details.

SIM registration assistance is available at the nearest Globe Store. Customers can also ask a trustworthy friend or relative for help.

#3. Avoid SIMs with tampered packaging.

Old SIMs with tampered packaging are being sold by some unscrupulous vendors. This indicates that the SIMs in question have been previously used and are being repackaged as new. Always ensure that you purchase only sealed SIM cards.

#4. Do not buy or sell pre-registered SIM cards.

It is unlawful to consent to the registration of SIM cards in one's name for a fee. Customers are prohibited from participating in this scheme, regardless of whether they are the client or the seller.

Individuals who are convicted of selling or transferring a registered SIM may be fined between Php 100,000 and Php 300,000 and/or imprisoned for a period of six months to six years, as stipulated in Section 11 of the SIM Registration Act.

Globe said it "remains committed to ensuring that all customers have access to secure and reliable telecommunications services." It added that "by following these guidelines, customers can help create a safer mobile environment for everyone."
