T1 beat BLG to win LoL Worlds 2024, snag historic 5th title

South Korea's T1 are your League of Legends (LoL) Worlds 2024 champions after beating China's Bilibili Gaming (BLG), 3-2, in the grand finals. The breathtaking crowning event of LoL esports was witnessed on London, England soil in the O2 Arena on November 2.

With the historic win, LoL GOAT (greatest of all time) Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok secured his fifth World Championship title, sharing this remarkable milestone with his longtime team, T1, previously known as SK Telecom (SKT) T1.

Besides being the holder of the Summoner's Cup (the tournament's coveted trophy), champions T1 took home the largest share of USD 445,000 (around PHP 25 million), equivalent to a 20 percent slice from the total prize pool of USD 2,225,000. On the other hand, runners-up Bilibili Gaming settled for a commendable second-place finish, bagging USD 356,000 as their consolation prize.

T1's veteran mid-laner Faker led the squad to the sweet victory in the best-of-five (Bo5) grand finals. He was named Finals MVP for his excellent play and astonishing skills, which he truly deserves. Among his notable picks highlighting his genius moves were Sylas (in game 4, where he stole Rakan's ult) and Galio (in game 5, where he showed his precise positioning and casting of spells).

Prior to the finals, in the Knockout Stage, T1 dominated its matches. In the Quarterfinals, the squad swept Top Esports (from LPL - China) in a 3-0 sweep. In the semifinals, they faced off against Gen.G, their fellow LCK - Korea representatives, who are also reigning Mid-Season Invitational champions, taking them down with a 3-1 score.

With their T1 roster intact, they secured a spot in the LoL World Championship final in 2022, where they finished as runners-up. Building on that success, they went on to clinch back-to-back wins in 2023 and 2024.

In addition to being a five-time world champion, this also marks Faker's second Finals MVP award, having previously earned his first at the 2016 Worlds. That also marked the final year that the iconic coach Kim "kkOma" Jeong-gyun was with the team. Following that season, he left the organization but made a comeback seven years later, ultimately leading T1 and Faker to capture the LoL Worlds 2024 trophy.
