Core gameplay updates include Perks, which are new hero-specific bonuses that offer players strategy and ability choices during matches. Starting on February 18, 2025 (Feb 19 Philippine Time), the release of Season 15, the Perks system will be available in Quick Play and Competitive Mode. This is the biggest change to the main gameplay since Overwatch launched in 2016.
Further, two new heroes will be introduced, including Freja (Hero 43) and Hero 44 (Codename: Aqua). Competitive play features, including Hero Bans and Map Voting, are also coming.
The Stadium game mode, a 5v5 battle in a best-of-seven format, will debut in Season 16. Players earn coins each round based on their performance. They can use these Stadium coins to unlock and customize hero abilities with Mods (like extra armor and cooldown reduction). There'll be 14 core heroes at launch, with more added over time.
Moreover, loot boxes will make a comeback. They will be available in the free track of the battle pass and weekly rewards.
You can earn different cosmetics by collecting loot boxes. You will get these from weekly rewards, event rewards, and the Free Battle Pass, which includes 1 Legendary Loot box. The Premium Battle Pass offers an additional 2 Legendary Loot boxes. Every loot box will contain at least one Rare or better item. You are guaranteed to receive an Epic item within five boxes and a Legendary item within twenty boxes.
For cosmetic updates, there will be new Mythic skins for Widowmaker, Zenyatta, Juno, Mercy, Reaper, and D.Va.
