Filipino made horror indie game Hapunan

Hapunan, a horror game by one-man Filipino indie dev Yikon, goes viral online because of its creepy story, nod to Philippine culture, and surprising jump scares. It has been played by several content creators and streamers, both local and international. It is even among the top sellers on the Itch platform.

Currently, the game is only available on Windows PC and Android mobile platforms. No support for Apple iOS yet. Through the game's official website (https://ift.tt/r45A7it), you can download the Demo Version (free) or buy the Full Version, priced at USD 3.99 (around PHP 230) / PHP 200 when purchased via GCash.

In a Facebook post, the developer said that Hapunan will be released on Steam soon. He also noted that the game is not available on platforms like Google Play and Apple App Store. To avoid fake versions, he urges interested gamers to download only on Itch and Steam.

The creative mind responsible for the eerie game "Hapunan" is the fervent 21-year-old Filipino game developer Josef Nikolaus "Yikon" Yenko, hailing from Marinduque. He created the game using Unity Game Engine on a "potato" PC (laptop with low specifications). Since the game has low-quality graphics and pixelated visuals, it is not graphically demanding. You can smoothly play it on your entry-level Android phone or PC device.

Regarding gameplay, Hapunan (which means "dinner" or "supper") combines suspense, action, and Pinoy culture to create an intense and emotional experience.

Players will take on the role of Niko, a young street food vendor selling balut and other Filipino street foods late at night in Barangay Sak Dudol. You'll get caught in a dangerous situation as you progress, turning your simple life into a nightmare. You uncover a shocking secret about the Barangay Captain, his vicious friends, and a violent background. You'll face tough choices, reveal secrets, and battle for your family.

Meanwhile, Yikon revealed his future plans in a Facebook post. He said he would create a horror series called "Gabi ng Lagim," inspired by Fears to Fathom, with a focus on Filipino culture. As for Hapunan Episode 2, he will postpone it first so that the hype can build up in Mang Berto's story.
